Idea Napkin No.1

1) You -- I have a bit of retail and customer service experience as I worked at Tommy Hilfiger in high school as a seasonal employee, and frequently volunteer in community events and organizations like Give Kids the World. I also speak 3 other languages, which could be a useful asset since I would expand my business globally. I don't expect that this business would immediately change the world, but I would hope to set a global standard that would eventually transform low-income districts into sustainable communities. This business would play a huge role in my life, as I'd probably have a full-time dedication to continue monitoring and expanding it.
2) What are you offering to customers?  I'm offering a local product or service to promote economic growth for workers that struggle for employment. I'm also offering to them an incentive to help in the climate change cause -- as their purchase would directly go towards an organization that works to install renewable energy in poor communities around the world.
3) Who are you offering it to?  Overall, this product is offered to everyone. Anyone is free to purchase something that would directly benefit society. However, I think a lot of the marketing would go towards the youth -- particularly Millennials, as we are passionate to take upon social causes that are constantly being shared through various platforms. Also, the issue of climate change is something that will have a greater effect on our future when we grow up, especially as the world continues to change as a result -- so I think it's something we are more likely to try and mitigate as opposed to older generations.
4) Why do they care? Customers would see the value in purchasing something that they are aware would aid someone or a strong cause. Furthermore, I want to sell something that is util in everyday life, that people demand everyday.
5) What are your core competencies? Something that I have which sets me apart from everyone else is definitely heart. If I truly want something, I wouldn't stop until I achieve it and I absolutely cannot leave anything  half-finished.

I believe that my personal elements contributed significantly to my business concept. Ultimately, If I were not as I am, I wouldn't want to dedicate my life to helping others and the collective good of the world -- no matter how large or how small of an impact I'm able to do. Being an entrepreneur takes certain skill sets -- patience, dedication, commitment, and ultimately motivation. Something has to drive you to get up everyday and work on your business -- for me, what motivates me to such a fervent extent is simply my desire to combine the art of buying and selling to make the world a better place.

  1. Hi, liana,
I read your assignment. It is amazing that you speak 3 other languages. Your idea about “offer to everyone that is free to purchase something that world directly benefit society” is a good and fashion opinion in business. Also, you care about climate change, and you will put effect on your future when everybody grows up. I am sure that you will contribute significantly to your business concept from your personal elements.

  2. Hi Liana

You certainly have an interesting idea for a business which has some precedent in recent history. You definitely seem to have the confidence to get this kind of thing off the ground. But if trying to make the world a better place through charity is your goal, might I suggest another aspect of charitable giving that could be of use to you?

The way we humans give to charity is often irrational when taken in the aggregate. We would all agree that given the choice between saving a human and a dog from a burning building, we would all save the human. But the charities that tend to receive the most money from small donations don't even help people! Providing a service whereby people can be matched with charities that will do the most good for the amount of money being offered could be very helpful.

  3. Hey Liana, your passion is very contagious. It is very cool that you can speak so many languages. That is such a valuable asset as you venture into the business world. I believe one day you will accomplish your goals. To me it is so exciting that one day the most remote villages and the poorest areas will have access to self-sustaining power. This is such an important cause and we are so close to fixing it, we just need more people like you.

  4. Hi Liana,
Speaking multiple languages is definitely an asset you can leverage for expanding your idea globally. I think your passion for making the world a better place through economics is an important mindset to have. There are people with that same passion but they try to do so without using current economic resources/tools.
